When the COVID-19 outbreak arrived and the Shelter in Place Orders were announced, hundreds of our neighbors lost their jobs and called us for help.

As an essential business serving the most vulnerable, we put in place precautions to flatten the curve and keep our employees safe while remaining open.

Hundreds of people from Santa Cruz, Monterey, San Benito and San Luis Obispo Counties call everyday asking for help with their rent and utilities, legal immigration services, or to find out if the qualify for CalFresh (food) or Medi-Cal (health insurance). Moms and dads, working in agriculture, hospitality, food, and other service industries reached out to us asking how they were going to feed and keep their families housed with no paycheck.

Although our buildings were semi-closed, our services, minds and hearts are still open. Our dedicated staff adjusted our delivery of services and learned new ways to rely on technology to help our brothers and sisters in need. Our caring community of donors also quickly answered the call to help families and individuals in most need of basic necessities.

THANKS to our donors and foundation grants, we are here to help! We provide assistance by phone, email, using window slots, and brief appointments. We continue to adjust as local and State policies evolve.

In serving the most vulnerable in our communities during these times, our Financial Assistance services are currently focused on families and individuals who:

  • have lost their jobs or reduced their income.

  • are not eligible for unemployment or other programs.

  • are undocumented or have mixed-status families.
