CalFresh Healthy Living program supports healthy and active lifestyles

Our program strengthens the ability of each participant to make small changes that can result in a healthy lifestyle. Nutrition Education Specialists promote the following goals:

  • Increase consumption of healthy beverages, especially water.
  • Decrease consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages.
  • Increase consumption of fruits and vegetables.
  • Increase daily physical activity.

Leah’s Pantry Food Smarts Program

Leah’s Pantry: Food Smarts for Adults is a five-week program (1 hour a week, once a week) that comprises the major components of a healthy lifestyle- nutrition education; smart shopping; and physical activity. The five-week series explores the following themes and activities:

  • Cooking demonstrations: easy, tasty and budget friendly recipes
  • Basic nutrition: MyPlate, balanced meals and serving sizes.
  • Chronic disease prevention
  • Physical Activity: bringing families together by encouraging them to incorporate fun, physical activities into their weekly routines.
  • Smart Shopping– a tour to your local grocery store to learn creative ways to buy healthy choices within your budget.

Our nutrition education program currently partners with parishes, schools, and community agencies to make nutrition education accessible to the local community. Leah’s Pantry Food Smarts Program

Leah’s Pantry: Food Smarts for Kids is a 5-week nutrition education program (one hour a week, once a week) designed specifically for low-income children and youths. This program is provided in partnerships by MyPlate, CATCH and Harvest of the Month.

Our sessions include:

  • Fruits and vegetables taste tests
  • Cooking Demonstrations: tasty and kid-friendly recipes
  • Basic nutrition:  MyPlate, balanced meals and serving sizes
  • Chronic disease prevention
  • Fun physical activities
