KNOW YOUR RIGHTS
Our Immigration and Citizenship Program staff is accredited by the Department of Justice and serves as a vital resource in our community. Known for their expertise, they are dedicated to assisting those seeking lawful permanent resident status and those wishing to become citizens of our nation.
At Catholic Charities Diocese of Monterey, we’re committed to helping individuals protect their rights. Our Red Cards are a simple tool to help you and your family understand and assert your constitutional right, especially during interactions with immigration or law enforcement officials.
Using a Red Card is easy, just follow these steps:
1. Carry It with You – Keep your Red Card in your wallet or purse for easy access.
2. Show the Card – If approached by law enforcement or immigration officials, calmly show the card instead of engaging in conversation.
3. Stay Silent – After showing the card, you have the right to remain silent and don’t need to answer any questions.
4. Ask for an Attorney – If questioned further, assert your right to legal representation and avoid sharing additional information.
