For immediate Release, September 29, 2021

Over 500 farmworker families will receive donations of food and household staples in Hollister, CA.  This is a partnership of San Jose Farmworker Caravan and Catholic Charities Diocese of Monterey on Saturday, October 2, 2021

WHAT:  Approximately 50-80 cars and trucks will drive as a caravan from San Jose to Hollister on Saturday, October 2nd to deliver thousands of donated food and emergency items to farmworkers affected by the pandemic. Volunteers and staff from Catholic Charities, Sacred Heart Church, Sacred Heart School and Diocese of Monterey will sort donations and distribute to local farmworkers

WHO:  Since April 2020, a grassroots effort based in San Jose known as “Farmworker Caravan”, led by Darlene Tenes, has been organizing donation drives to provide emergency supplies to farmworkers.  Previous caravans have donated supplies to Hollister, South San Jose County, Salinas, and Watsonville.

WHY:  Farmworkers are essential workers and they work during heatwaves, wildfires, and Covid-19 for long hours with little pay to keep food on the tables of everyone across America. While providing needed supplies to families in critical need of help, the caravans are also a way of thanking these essential workers for their important work.

WHERE/WHEN:  Catholic Charities Diocese of Monterey, in partnership with the Farmworker Caravan, will distribute the donated goods at the following time/location:

  • DATE: Saturday, October 2
  • TIME:from 10:30am – noon the caravan will drop off goods. Volunteers and staff will sort them  and farmworkers will pick them up from 4:00pm – 5:30pm.
  • PLACE: Sacred Heart Church — 680 College St., Hollister

NOTE:  Bishop Oscar Cantu of San Jose will be joining the caravan.
