Hope, Community, and Belonging: The Heart of Catholic Charities’ Mission

145,849 These numbers represent more than statistics—they tell a story of purpose, impact, and commitment.

1 Mission:

“The mission of Catholic Charities Diocese of Monterey is to provide service to people in need, to advocate for social justice, and to call other people of good will to do the same.”

Our mission serves to empower individuals and families with opportunities to break cycles of poverty and build a sustainable future.

4 counties:

Serving San Benito, Santa Cruz, Monterey, and San Luis Obispo—home to over 1.6 million people, where 4% struggle with poverty.

  • Monterey County 430,723
  • Santa Cruz County 261,547
  • San Benito 68,175
  • San Luis Obispo 281,639

5 Core Programs:

Addressing essential needs through disaster relief, financial stability, tattoo removal, nutrition and food access, and immigration legal services—core services that have transformed lives since 1984.

8 offices:

Strategically placed where need is greatest, ensuring accessibility through public transportation.

49 staff members:

Dedicated individuals who drive our mission forward, growing from a small team of 15 serving 4 counties with 4 offices in 1984 to meet the ever-growing needs of our community.

In an era where families are facing housing insecurity, economic instability, and systemic barriers, our work has never been more critical. We believe belonging is the antidote to division. When individuals feel seen, valued, and supported, they find the courage to rebuild their lives.

Our community is more than a place—it is a shared purpose, a commitment to welcoming, uplifting, and embracing one another. It reaches beyond neighborhoods, past school districts, and across highways, uniting us in kindness and authenticity. True belonging knows no borders. It flourishes where dignity is honored, respect is given, and love is the foundation. When we open our hearts to the stranger, when we show up as our true selves, we create a community where everyone is seen, valued, and empowered. Together, we build something greater— a home rooted in love, where all belong.

At Catholic Charities, our mission is not just about service—it’s about fostering a sense of belonging. Regardless of faith, background, or status, our doors remain open because hope knows no boundaries.

This year, we have strengthened our impact through:

  • Christmas Angels: Bringing joy and support to over 1,000 individuals, families, and seniors.
  • Call to Action Campaign: Raising over $8,000 in February to support emergency services.
  • Enhanced Communication & Storytelling: With a new Communications & Marketing Coordinator, we are sharing the real stories of transformation.
  • Immigration Workshops

But the need is growing. The gaps in services, staffing, and resources are widening. The waitlists for basic needs are increasing. Our ability to serve, convene, and advocate is being stretched to its limits.

We cannot do this alone. True impact happens when we unite as a community—businesses, donors, partners, and individuals all working together to create change.

This is not about charity. This is about equity, empowerment, and sustainable solutions. Together, we can build a future where everyone belongs—where home is not taken away, where opportunities are not out of reach, and where hope is not a privilege but a right.

We invite you—our board members, donors, and community partners—to stand with us in this mission. Your support is not just an investment in Catholic Charities—it’s an investment in a stronger, more connected, and hopeful future for all.

Hope starts here. Belonging starts now.

Thank you for being part of this movement.
